Sadie, Mackinac Island's Best Known Scottish Terrier Wins Westminster
Sadie, a jet-black four-year-old bitch known as Ch Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, displayed the ideal combination of breeding standards and confidence, beating out 2,500 entrants at the 134-year-old dog show."She's the total package," marveled Elliot Weiss, of Eagle, Idaho, who judged the Best in Show round before a cheering, capacity crowd at Madison Square Garden. This is the complete dog ... That's what you want a Scottie to look like," said Weiss.
Sadie was the dog to beat. She went into the competition as a favorite of both oddsmakers and experts, in sharp contrast to the upsets of recent years by the likes of a charismatic, baying Beagle and an aging, plodding Sussex Spaniel, both of which were little known but clear crowd favorites.

About Sadie's Family
Amelia and Dan Musser are owners of the iconic Grand Hotel here on Mackinac Island. Listed among America's historic hotels, it has housed the Duchess of Windsor, Jackie Kennedy and many US Presidents in addition to sports and film celebrities. Carleton Varney, Dorothy Draper's protoge ensures the interior design reflects the Victorian Era with a touch of whimsy that is his signature. In a world of fast everything, the Musser's have created an enviroment where dressing for dinner is required and slowing down is an art form.
We congratulate the Musser's and Sadie for her well deserved win!!!
Welcome
Founded in the winter of 2005, the Mackinac Island Dog & Pony Club was created as an online resource for our canine and equine friends visiting and living on Mackinac Island.
Mission Statement
To raise awareness of our canine and equine companions through information and fun events.
Collaborative Efforts
We partner with like minded businesses to promote pet friendly experiences on Mackinac Island.
Charitable
We raise funds though canine and equine events for Mackinac Island's non-profit Great Turtle Festivals, a 501c3 organization.
Pet Friendly Attractions
Most attractions on the Island are pet friendly with the exception of our two Butterfly conservatories, though both offer tie outs and fresh water for your pooch during your visit. (dogs seem to have issues with attacking the butterflies).
Mackinac Island Carriage Tours permits small dogs that are willing to sit on their owners laps. Larger dogs are permitted but if they need a seat, they are charged a child's fare, all dogs must be horse friendly.
Jack's Livery welcomes dogs that are horse friendly for their Drive Your Own Buggy tours.
Fort Mackinac is dog friendly, though owners should pay attention to the canon firing schedule and gun demonstrations as many dogs are frightened by the sound of gunfire and canon fire. We suggest taking your dog to the west end of the Fort during these demonstrations if you think your pooch is not hunting dog material.
City Ordinance
Please know, all dodgs must be kept on their leash at all times and owners must clean up after their dogs. There is a $100 fine assessed for not cleaning up after your dog.
